Deaf Tour of the British Museum
Saturday 6th September 2008
Leaders: Andy Owen & Matt Wainwright (H)
The British Museum has many things to show from the Bible:
A carving of a Jewish King, from 850 BC.
The gates of the Assyrian Capital City.
Wall paintings of Lachish, the last city attacked before Jerusalem.
A picture that Queen Esther would have seen with her own eyes.
A Bowl that Nehemiah would have held.
And many more things.
All these things show that we can trust the Bible.
Saturday 5th April 2008
Speaker: Andy Owen (Hearing)
Andy spoke about the dinosaurs. Many people are confused about what happened to them, but Andy explained what the Bible says, and about creation. The Bible says that when God made all the animals, they were vegetarians:
Genesis chapter 1 verse 30:
God said: “And I am giving all the green plants to the animals. These green plants will be their food. Every animal on earth, every bird in the air, and all the little things that crawl on the earth will eat that food.”
It means that people lived with the dinosaurs because there was no danger. Andy explained lots more about the FLOOD (most dinosaurs died in the flood) and some Bible dates. The Bible has lots of information, but sometimes we miss it, especially what it says about our sin, but the Lord Jesus can change our lives and forgive our sin.
Saturday 2nd February 2008
Speaker: Chris Cooper (Hearing)
Chris told us about a runaway slave, named Onesimus. Paul was in prison, but he met Onesimus and helped him to become a Christian. Then Paul wrote a letter to his owner, Philemon. Paul asked Philemon to welcome his slave back home.
Sometimes we are like Onesimus. We run away from God. Chris explained how we can find God, just like Onesimus did.
Saturday 5th January 2008
Speaker: Andy Owen (Hearing)
Topic: Deaf People in the Bible.
Andy spoke about Deaf people in the Bible, especially the man that Jesus healed.
Andy asked the question: Will Deaf people become hearing in Heaven? He spoke about the verses:
John chapter 5 verse 28-29
Don’t be surprised at this. A time is coming when
all people who are dead and in their graves will hear his voice.
Then they will come out of their graves. Those who did good in this life will rise and have eternal life. But those who did evil will rise to be judged guilty.
When you have died, then when you hear the voice of Jesus, which group will you be in: People who will have eternal life, or people who will be judged guilty?
