The Pe
rsonal Spiritual Life by Dr Peter Masters
From the personal indwelling of the Holy Spirit to living a life of commitment these chapters stir and encourage readers to advance spiritually. In what sense may we ‘feel’ the presence of the Lord? What was the apostle Paul’s method for progress in holiness? How may we identify our spiritual gifts? And how may we count more for the Lord, and sustain spiritual joy? These are among the themes of this tonic for present-day disciples of Christ.

Should Christians Drink?
What are the biblical arguments which have convinced the majority of Bible believers during the last two centuries that the Lord wants His people to abstain? Are alcoholic drinks right or wrong for a Christian? Why should something ‘right’ for Old Testament Israelites be ‘wrong’ for Christ’s church? What are the differences between the wines of Bible times and those of today? All who seek to honour Christ and be blessed in His service will want to consider the case set out in this booklet for abstinence.

The Sword & Trowel was started in 1865 by C H Spurgeon. It enjoys an extensive readership throughout the world, particularly among ministers and church leaders. It has by far the largest circulation of any magazine (world-wide) adhering to reformed and Baptist distinctive.
We stress the doctrines of grace coupled with the need for vigorous evangelistic effort. We plead for separation from worldliness and compromise (the defensive Sword), and the principle that every believer should be engaged in Christian service (the dedicated Trowel). Spurgeon announced the magazine with these words: 'We would ply the Trowel with untiring hand for the building up of Jerusalem's dilapidated walls, and wield the Sword with vigour and valour against the enemies of the Truth.'
