The Truth About Life

1 John 5.20

Is Christ true? Is reconciliation with God possible? Is the source of Christian salvation – the Bible – true? Can it be tested? Does it work? What about alternative explanations and policies for life? These answers to plain questions will help all who seek reality, and peace with God.

‘And we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true. And we are in him that is true, even in his Son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.’

And our subject is ‘the truth about life’. Here in the verse that I just read it means that which is genuine, real, as opposed to that which is false. And it says here that God is true no less than three times in this verse. He is no myth, insists the Apostle John in this verse. He is no illusion, no deception, no falsehood. He is no delusion, no false impression. He is no failed hope. We are speaking of God who is the first cause, the creator of all things. Oh, there’s much said about origins these days, especially by those who are militant atheists, the beginning of all things. Well, of course, reject God as creator, reject the great designer of the universe. And you have no real explanation for origins, for how everything began. Oh, yes, you can multiply the theories. You can go through the theory of evolution. You can go back to the ‘Big Bang’ and supposed theoretical beginnings. And you’re still chasing the origin of all things.

And nowadays, so many scientific kind of atheists, they have to speak of a multiverse, that the origin is in multiple universes. Something beyond our own universe, they suppose. There are many others. And so further and further back, you put the founding spark of matter and life. And you believe in something for which there is zero evidence and zero indications. It’s a strange thing that not all atheists, but the most militant atheists, they say the Christian faith is merely a leap in the dark, blind faith, believing in something for which we have no evidence. And here they are believing in things for which they have no evidence.
