Children's Weeknight Meetings
Term Topics for Children's and Young People's Weeknight Meetings
These weeknight meeting notes have been developed for small or larger groups gathered in a home or church hall and have been used to engage the minds of the young for many years. By making Sunday School and Bible Class attendance a condition of joining the weeknight meetings, numbers have grown enormously, and families have been reached. Mrs Jill Masters has done the homework for speakers, providing them with fascinating ideas which will captivate children even after a day at school. Notes provide for a talk lasting around 15-20 minutes on each topic. Details of readily available books are also provided (from which teachers may obtain further information about topics if desired).
These topics come in attractive A4 folders; price: £3.00 each, plus postage.
Topic 1 - Why Believe in God?
An arsenal of replies to challenge those who have not given much thought to the question – Why Believe in God? Replies include – Because He made me, and Because my conscience tells me there is a God. These talks also enthuse and ‘arm’ young believers for their personal witness. (10 talks)
Topic 2 - The War of the World against God’s Word
This traces the Bible’s triumph over antagonism down the ages from Roman persecution to the present day. It provides an engaging way of presenting Christian history not taught in secular schools. (10 talks)
Topic 3 - The Bible, an Amazing Book
The Bible is unique in human literature. This topic gives an opportunity to explain its divine authorship, its influence on world history, its information and, most important of all, its soul-saving message, and our need of this. (9 talks)
Topic 4 - The Bible and Medicine
Presents facts to illustrate and describe the wonders of the body, and to jolt young people into not taking themselves or their Maker for granted. Also included are testimonies of famous doctors. (11 talks)
Topic 5 - Prayer
Children and young people are really impressed to hear how great prayers have changed the course of world history. This topic also provides an opportunity to explain the right way to approach the Lord, and includes ‘model’ prayers from the Bible. (12 talks)
Topic 6 - Matters of Life and Death
Is death the end? What is Heaven like? Why would a God of love send anyone to hell? What events will bring the world to an end? These serious questions are, of course, ignored by schools and the media, and children are curious to hear the answers, especially when these come with the authority of the Bible, coupled with the obvious concern of believing teachers. (11 talks)
Topic 7 - The Bible: Fact or Fiction?
Children are often given the impression that much of the Bible is little more than myths and stories. This topic takes them on an imaginary trip to the British Museum and the Middle East to see for themselves the evidences for the reliability of Bible history, including events once sneered at that have been vindicated by the discoveries of archaeologists. All age groups are fascinated to hear how they unearthed these treasures, and warm to their implications. Teachers will value the opportunity of helping the young to respect and trust the Word of God. (10 talks)
Topic 8 - Things Wise and Wonderful
If only we could encourage the young to look more closely at the world around them, they might soon begin with the Spirit’s help to see the Creator. These talks range from the grasshopper to the lion, water to the human heart, each ‘loaded’ with a Gospel dart. (11 talks)
Topic 9 - Messages from Space
The Lord Jesus Himself used the heavenly bodies to teach vital lessons. We follow His example. Key Bible texts are listed each week. Professor DeYoung’s books provide the most staggering facts and figures to make our points. Fascinating observations help the young appreciate our dependence on natural gifts. (9 talks)
Topic 10 - The Bible and Science
The media like to give the impression that science has done away with the God of the Bible. This topic challenges this view with biographies of the founders of modern science who were firm Bible-believers and convinced Christians. It raises questions which the evolutionist cannot answer. (11 talks)
Topic 11 - The Holy War
This series is based on John Bunyan’s classic The Holy War, the wonderful story of a battle between King Shaddai (with his son Emmanuel) and Diabolus (the prince of darkness) over the town of Mansoul. It is our prayer that this unusual method of presenting the Gospel will duck under Satan’s defences, becoming the means of causing the ‘Mansoulians’ of our day to open their gates to Emmanuel. (10 talks)
Topic 11 - visual aid pack
Full colour visual aids printed on card to accompany series are available from Tabernacle Bookshop. The visual aids are also available as pdf files for enlargement and projection by Sundays Schools using the topic. (These images are copyright, all other uses, including resale, prohibited.)
